TANYA Hinton’s charismatic leaping hare, Malkin, is one of the paintings on show at the First View Gallery in the Spreadeagle Inn courtyard at Stourhead from Saturday 9th June to Sunday 1st July.
Tanya Hinton, who is based at Crockerton, specialises in painting on wood – achieving extraordinary trompe l’oeil effects as in this study where the hare seems to leap over the join in the panelling.
Her partner, painter Nick Andrew also has work in the exhibition – pictured is Manteia, one of three new pieces in the First View summer show.
Nick is leading a three-day summer art school at Stourhead from 7th to 9th August. It’s the first time since 2011 that Nick has run a summer school. The aim is to develop participants’ individual approach to making art, exploring the possibilities offered by the landscape, gardens, buildings and lakes in and around Stourhead through stimulating drawing and painting exercises and working out ideas towards finished pieces of work.
