JENNIFER Coombs, a former High Sheriff of Dorset, comes to Tollard Talks in the barn at Tollard House, Tollard Royal, on Thursday 18th October, to give a talk called From High Sheriff to High Seas.
At the beginning of this year Jennifer made a six-week, 6,500km sailing trip across the wild, windswept South Atlantic to assist the Jubilee Sailing Trust whose aim is to involve people from all walks of life, both able and physically disabled, to reach their potential through sailing.
The voyage proved to be a serious challenge for both able and disabled crew. Jennifer’s adventure took place on the barque, Tenacious, the largest wooden ship to be built in the UK for 100 years.
During her talk she will describe in words and pictures her experience of sailing from the Falklands Islands to Cape Town via South Georgia and Tristan de Cunha.
The talk, which begins at 7pm, is in aid of the Lyme Bay and Charmouth Stations of the National Coastwatch Institution and the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
