Between the acts at Drury Lane

THE Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, has been dazzling and delighting audiences for nearly 320 years. Get a taste of the interval music that entertained those early audiences at a fascinating period instrument recital at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Sunday 23rd February, at 2.30pm.

Indoor Fireworks: Entertainments from Drury Lane gives a taste of what was on offer from 1702 during the intervals, including music, dance and acrobatics.

Recorder player Olwen Foulkes, accompanied by theorbo and cello, introduces the music and musicians featured in these fashionable interval concerts.

The programme includes fiery sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli and Giuseppe Sammartini, and beautiful suites by less well-known musicians James Paisible, Matthew Locke, and John Grano.
