Black is the colour – remembering Nina

NINA Simone was not only one of the greatest jazz singers of the post-war era – she was also a passionate civil rights campaigner.

A one-woman show, inspired by Simone and written and performed by Apphia Campbell, comes to Bridport Arts Centre on Friday 13th October at 8pm.

It is the only date in the region for the show, Black is the Colour of My Voice, which follows a successful jazz singer and civil rights activist seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father.

She reflects on the journey that took her from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.
