Bourne’s swans fly back to Plymouth

MATTHEW Bourne’s now legendary Swan Lake came to Plymouth Theatre Royal in February 1996, direct from its Sadlers Wells premiere, so it is apt that it starts the new tour at the Plymouth venue, where it is on stage from Saturday 22nd to Saturday 29th September 2018.

The choreographer tried out many of his works in the west country, in Plymouth and Yeovil, and he made his name with the audacious look at the classic Tchaikovsky ballet, replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble. It not only took the dance world by storm but brought huge new audiences into the world of dance.

The 2018 production stars Will Bozier and Max Westwell, dancing The Swan for the first time, with Liam Mower and Dominic North both returning to the role of  The Prince, along with James Lovell, making his professional debut.

The Queen will be performed by  Nicole Kabera and Katrina Lyndon, who also alternates the role of The Girlfriend with Freya Field and Carrie Willis. The Private Secretary will be played by Glenn Graham, with Max Westwell and Ashley-Jordon Packer.

Swan Lake will also be at Bristol Hippodrome from 12th to 16th March 2019.
