Cathedral organ on CD

LOVERS of great organ music can enjoy a real treat with a new CD of works by César Franck, recorded on Salisbury Cathedral’s famous 1876 Father Willis organ, played by the Cathedral’s assistant director of music, John Challenger.

John’s second album is released on the Cathedral’s own new recording label. The recording was made before the organ was dismantled for restoration earlier this year, keeping alive the sound of this historic organ while it is being refurbished.

The CD features the major organ works of the 19th-century composer and founder of the French symphonic organ school, César Franck – Pièce Heroïque, the Prélude, Fugue et Variation, and the Cantabile, along with the gigantic Trois Chorals pour Grand Orgue, composed in 1890, immediately prior to his death.

Proceeds from the sales of this CD will support the cathedral’s continuing musical heritage. César Franck – Organ Works is available at the Cathedral Shop or can be ordered online via the cathedral website:
