Celebrating Dorset food in poetry

A POEM that has been commissioned by Dorset’s rural arts charity Artsreach and Dorset Food and Drink was launched online on Monday 9th August at 11am via the Artsreach YouTube site.

Dairy Cows and Dorset Knobs, a poem for the local shoppers of Dorset by Liv Torc is the culmination of a project between the poet and Artsreach that began in the spring.

Since the spring, Artsreach has been working with Liv Torc on a creative celebration of Dorset’s outstanding local food and drink producers. The aim is also to thank those who choose to shop locally, particularly since the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dorset is home to some of the UK’s most outstanding food and drink producers. Many are embedded within communities across the county that are partners with Artsreach, which has worked with volunteers in villages for more than 30 years, hosting professional performances in local venues such as village halls. or parish churches

Dairy Cows and Dorset Knobs has been written by southwest based performance poet Liv Torc, who spent time travelling around the county with filmmakers Pageant Productions, performing the poem in various locations and at numerous food and drink producers’ sites to bring the poem to life on screen.

The poem has also been printed on a postcard, which features illustrations by Dorset artist Delphine Jones. It is available at various food and drink outlets across Dorset, or by contacting the Dorset Food & Drink team directly.
