CINEMA Obscura, west Somerset’s adventurous film society, continues its short season of screenings in conjunction with Stogumber Cinema, on Friday 22nd April, with the Icelandic-Ukrainian film Woman at War.
Halla is a 50-year-old environmental activist who crusades against the local aluminium industry in Iceland. As her actions grow bolder, her life changes in the blink of an eye when she is finally granted permission to adopt a girl from the Ukraine.
The film, directed by Benedikt Erlingsson, is also in Spanish, and will be shown with subtitles. It is currently being remade for the American audience by Jodie Foster – this is an opportunity to see the original.
Woman at War will be shown at Stogumber village hall, at 7.30pm. The final film in this short series is Kenneth Branagh’s brilliant, BAFTA winning and Oscar-nominated semi-autobiographical Belfast, on Friday 13th May.
