Dartmoor Whisky launches new single malt

WHETHER you’re looking forward to a Christmas gathering with the permitted number of your nearest and dearest or raising a glass on Burns Night, the new Ex-Sherry Cask Single Malt from Dartmoor Whisky should hit the spot.

Distilled at the old town hall in Bovey Tracey, the gateway to Dartmoor, and aged in an Oloroso Sherry cask, this addition to the range completes the line-up from Devon’s first whisky distillery.

Firmly rooted in the windswept moors that give it its name, all of its ingredients are sourced from the moorlands and brought together in Dartmoor Whisky Distillery’s refurbished Alembic Cognac still.

Whereas most sherry expressions are only finished in sherry casks, sitting for most of their maturation in lesser casks, the Dartmoor distillery Ex-Sherry Cask Single Malt is aged in Oloroso Sherry casks from start to finish, allowing the spirit the time it needs to take on its golden colour, inviting sherry aromas and diverse flavour notes.

The perfect present for the whisky lover, Dartmoor Whisky’s new Discovery Set from Dartmoor Whisky showcases the distillery’s range, with three miniature bottles of the Ex-Bourbon Cask Single Malt Whisky, the Ex-Bordeaux Cask Single Malt and the Ex-Oloroso Sherry Cask Single Malt, and tasting notes for each expression.

The barley is grown and harvested at Preston Farm on Dartmoor and the matured whisky is cut with pure Dartmoor Spring Water, filtered through granite for 200 years before it reaches the water table below ground.

Founders Greg Millar and Simon Crow have worked closely with Master Distiller, Frank McHardy, to create the recipes and install a fine copper still that will do justice to what the land has provided.
