THE Bath Ustinov season of American plays opens on Thursday 7th February with the UK premiere of Blue Door, running until Saturday 9th March.
The production is directed by Eleanor Rhode and stars Coronation Street star and RSC regular Ray Fearon as Lewis, a maths professor at a well-regarded university. When his wife leaves him, partly due to the fact that he won’t attend a black protest march in Washington DC, Lewis experiences a disorientating insomnia and inadvertently conjures three generations of his ancestors. All are played by Fehinti Balogun in the Bath production. They reveal the hardships and victories that have shaped all of their lives …
Written by Tanya Barfield, who also wrote the songs, Blue Door is both funny and poignant, with overtones of It’s A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. The story also expands on themes set out in the Oscar-winning movies Twelve Years A Slave and The Help.
