AN elegant, mysterious black and white image of a wooden staircase has won the top prize in the Ilminster Open Photographic exhibition, currently on show at the arts centre at the Meeting House, until 27th April.
The winners were announced at a special evening preview event at the arts centre, selected from a strong field of more than 150 entries. Jamie Salmons’ enigmatic Composition IV was declared the overall winning image. The judges said this haunting and elegant photograph, taken on a smart phone, was “a simplistic image, which is what it is all about – taken in that magic moment when the light was just right.”.
Joint runners up were Donata Pawelczyk for Girl 1, a gentle studio portrait with Renaissance style and character, and David Thackwell, whose digitally enhanced image Duncliffe – Bluebells, beautifully captured an ephemeral woodland scene.
There is one more prize yet to be awarded – the coveted Visitors Choice Award, voted by members of the public who visit the exhibition.
