Flying fantasy, fairy frolics and family feelings

SINCE 1991, Illyria Outdoor Theatre has been touring plays around the UK during the summer months, delighting regular theatregoers and introducing newer audiences to the joys of live performance. This year the company has three plays on tour, all classics of their genres.

Peter Pan, for all the family, comes to Castle Gardens at Sherborne on 17th June and to Castle Drogo in Devon on the following night. In July it’s at Well Sports Field on 2nd and Marlborough College on 27th. The six August dates in the south and west start with the dramatic setting of Corfe Castle on Thursday 4th, Lacock Abbey (9th), Goldney House in Bristol (17th), Kingston Lacy near Wimborne (18th), Cockington Court in Torquay (28th) and Filleigh Castle Hill near Exeter (29th).

One of three touring productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Illyria comes to Hearn Field at Combeinteignhead on 18th June and Frome’s ECOS Amphitheatre the following night.  On 20th July the enchanted story is at Castle Gardens in Sherborne.  August dates include Tapeley Park Bideford (9th), Cockington Court Torquay (10th), Goldney House Bristol (18th) and Pocket Park at Calne on Wednesday 24th. The final date in the region is at Heywood House, Trowbridge on Sunday 4th September.

The third show, back by popular demand is The Pirates of Penzance, which has 11 July dates in the south west, starting on Saturday 2nd at Clovelly Court near Bideford. The tour continues at Steeple Langford Cricket Ground (9th) and The Lodge at Eggesford (15th), before a week-long Sunday17th to Friday 22nd run at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Then it’s back on the road to Frome’s ECOS (23rd) and Sherborne Castle Gardens on Wednesday 27th July. You can also enjoy the antics of the police and the pirates at Glastonbury Abbey on 16th August and at Cockington Court on Thursday 1st September.
