From Dorset with love

THE new online exhibition from Sladers Yard at West Bay is From Dorset With Love, a collection of paintings, sculpture, carvings and ceramics by some of Dorset’s leading artists, on view until 21st June.

The work in this selling exhibition includes recent paintings by Julian Bailey, Martyn Brewster, Vanessa Gardiner, Anthony Garratt,  Frances Hatch and Alex Lowery with woodcarvings by David West and furniture by the resident designer-maker Petter Southall.

As gallery owner Anna Powell says, this is a time when many of us have had to stop and look, and there has never been a more beautiful spring, so it is a perfect opportunity to enjoy work by painters who have spent their lives celebrating the wonders of the landscape, communicating through their paintings the deep effect these much-loved places have upon us all.

This is a celebration of landscape, landforms, sky, sea and the natural world around us, from the subtle colours and landforms of Vanessa Gardiner’s coastline paintings and the luscious brush strokes of Julian Bailey’s oil paintings, to Martyn Brewster’s compelling translucent abstractions, the music and sounds of nature in Anthony Garratt’s work and the layered, environmental textures of Frances Hatch’s mixed media renditions.

Working in three dimensions, David West is fascinated by the patterns in nature which he conveys by carving, painting and sometimes gilding wood.
