WHEN the Bacchaeia Wind Quintet comes to Ilminster Arts Centre on Saturday 18th May, their performance will raise funds for Dementia UK and Lions Club International of Ilminster.
The quintet, made up of past and present students of Royal Academy of Music, has chosen a programme that celebrates French romanticism, elegance and wit, with a selection of 19th and early 20th century pieces, including works by two women composers, Mélanie Bonis and the pioneering Louise Farrenc, who finally achieved her goal of equal pay with her male counterparts at the Paris Conservatoire in the mid-19th century.
Joining Bacchaeia is French Canadian pianist Lysandre Ménard, known for her starring role as the young piano prodigy Alice in the 2015 film The Passion of Augustine.
The programme will also include pieces by Albert Roussel, Maurice Ravel, Eugène Bozza and Jean Francaix.
