THE legendary Richard O’Brien musical The Rocky Horror Show is on tour again, and stops at Bath Theatre Royal from Monday 6th to Saturday 11th May.
A number of big name stars are playing the role of the Narrator on the tour, and at Bath it’s comedian Steve Punt, joining Strictly Come Dancing champion Joanne Clifton and pop star Ben Adams.
The brilliant satire on B-movie horror stories could hardly be more topical, 46 years after its opening in Chelsea, with it’s hit song Sweet Transvestite, from trassexual Translyvannia. It’’s the tory of super-straight college sweethearts Brad and Janet, betting lost on a dark and gloomy night and finding that the closest habitation is owned by Fran.N Furter, protected by his valet Riff Raff (played in the original by creator O’Brien.)
Frank makes his entrance in fishnets and high heels, and Brad and Janet are equally enthralled.
The current tour, with Stephen Webb as Frank‘n’Furter and Kristian Lavercombe as Riff Raff, is directed by Christopher Luscombe. Listen out for Science Fiction/Double Feature, Sweet Transvestite, Dammit Janet and, of course, the pelvic-thrusting floor-filler, The Time-Warp.
Performances at Bath are tat 7.30 Monday to Thursday and 8.30 on Friday and Saturday, with early evening shows on Friday at 5.30 and Saturday at 4.30. For more information, telephone 01225 448844 or visit the website, www.theatreroyal.org.uk
