JANE Leakey, a familar face on the Somerset theatre scene, brings her Fat Cat Theatre Company to her home county on 27th October.
She will be performing the family show An Otter’s Tale at the Blakehay Theatre in Weston super Mare at 3pm.
Her “close encounters of the furred kind” show was commissioned by and specially written for Natural England. It tells the stories of some of the amazing animals who live at Shapwick Nature Reserve in Somerset, providing an opportunity to meet the inhabitants “up close and personal”.
Jack the rat, Buddy the mink, Emily the watervole and Harry the heron are brought to life by loveable puppets, inspired by the wonderful creatures that Jane spent many hours researching.
“Sometimes it is tricky to see animals in the wild. That is why puppets are so brilliant in giving children the opportunity to meet the local wildlife face to face,” says Jane. “I find that young audiences gain a great deal of knowledge when they meet my characters, while having fun at the same time.
“Some young people, after seeing the show, are inspired to go to Shapwick to look at the real thing. And Shapwick is one of the best places in the UK to see otters.”
The show is recommended for children aged four and older.
