JAZZ pianist Jason Rebello comes to Strode Theatre in Street at 7pm on Sunday 15th September.
Jason’s piano playing started early, and by the age of 19 he was being described as a veteran. Classically trained but inspired by Herbie Hancock, he soon came to the attention of one of the founders of jazz fusion, Weather Report’s saxophonist Wayne Shorter, who produced his debut album A Clearer View in 1990.
Since then he has worked with soul diva Jocelyn Brown, Joy Rose, Cleveland Watkiss, Omar, Jacob Collier and Faithless rapper Maxi Jazz, as well as Wayne Shorter, Gary Burton, Branford Marsalis, Sting, Jeff Beck, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Pee Wee Ellis, Joss Stone, Madeleine Peyroux, Manu Katche and recently Charlene Soraia.
His latest solo piano CD, Held, is a masterful set of original compositions as well as an inventive reworking of Paul McCartney’s Blackbird. Spanning numerous musical worlds, from jazz to classical to pop, the album won best new CD in the 2016 British Jazz Awards.
Expect an evening of exciting improvisation, beautiful melodies and stunning keyboard virtuosity!
Jason will also lead a masterclass in the theatre at 4.30pm.
