ONE of the all-time favourite sitcoms, Some Mothers Do ‘ave Em, comes to the stage at Poole’s Lighthouse arts centre from Tuesday 3rd to Saturday 7th March, with a cast led by Joe Pasquale as the accident-prone Frank Spencer and Susie Blake as his constantly irritated mother-in-law.
Sarah Earnshaw plays Frank’s long-suffering wife, watching helplessly as her incompetent but well-meaning husband tumbles from one mishap to the next.
The story unfolds as Betty has exciting news for her husband, but Frank is preoccupied by his possible new-found fame as a magician. With guests arriving for dinner and crossed wires all round, priceless misunderstandings are on the menu.
The cast is completed by Moray Treadwell as Mr Luscombe/Mr Worthington, David Shaw-Parker as Father O’Hara and Ben Watson as Desmond/Constable.
TRIVIA NOTE. Few scenes from the original Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em are as fondly remembered as the “cliff hanger” episode in which Frank and Betty set out to enjoy a clifftop picnic. Somehow though, Frank’s car ends up see-sawing hundreds of feet above the sea with Frank hanging from the rear bumper. The episode, watched by more than 15 million people when it aired in 1973, was filmed at Seacombe Cliffs, near Swanage.
