THERE was disappointment on 6th August when Purbeck International Chamber Music Festival announced that the Beethoven concerts scheduled for 4th and 5th September had been cancelled.
The statement from the festival said “Unfortunately, on 31st July the Government postponed the planned re-commencement of indoor concerts and this has left us with no choice but to cancel the events. We are hoping to find other ways to celebrate Beethoven’s anniversary.”
The programme, organised by PICMF, would have been A Celebration of Beethoven, with a stellar line-up of musicians including cellist Natalie Clein, the festival’s artistic director, Alina Ibragimova, Steven Isserlis, Cedric Pescia and Lawrence Power.
Given the constantly changing situation with Covid-19, the festival organisers decided to postpone this year’s programme of “Music and the Senses” to late summer 2021..
