SALISBURY’S acclaimed Studio Theatre is on the Shakespearean trail this summer, with Merely Players, an Elizabethan masque-style show merging music, dance, songs and sonnets with some of the Bard’s best bits, on stage at the Ashley Road theatre from 22nd to 24th June.
Directed by Theo Ross and Rowena Greenaway with David Rhodes as the Music Master, the entertainment kicks off Studio Theatre’s own platinum jubilee celebrations and offers a tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates hers. Extracts will also be performed on Sunday 3rd July at the company’s garden party in the Woodford Valley.
Many of Studio’s best-known performers are taking part in Merely Players.
George Fleming plays Falstaff in Merry Wives of Windsor, Iago and Stephano in The Tempest. Peter Mitchell plays Nym in Merry Wives Sir Andrew Aguecheek, a Witch in Macbeth and in Henry VIII. David Taylor gives the Globe Speech and performs Two Gentlemen of Verona, Sir Toby Belch and Trinculo. Terry D’Onofrio is Othello, Caliban, Robin in The Merry Wives of Windsor, and is in Henry VIII. Lewis Chalke is Pistol in the Merry Wives, Fabian in Twelfth Night, Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew and Romeo.
Rachel Fletcher plays the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Lady Macbeth and gives The Quality of Mercy speech from The Merchant of Venice. Olivia Dutson is Kate in The Taming of the Shrew, Desdemona, Juliet and Olivia in Twelfth Night. Cassia Woolley is Lady Capulet, Maria in Twelfth Night, a Witch and performs a sonnet.
Caroline Butcher plays Mistress Ford in The Merry Wives of Windsor. Sarah Kirkpatrick is Mistress Page, Emelia in Othello and performs a sonnet.
