A GRANT of £83,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund will enable the four museums in the Wessex Museums group to offer new opportunities for children and young people.
Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, the Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum have received the grant for their Bridging the Gap project, which includes a programme of employability skills development for disabled young people; Contemporary Collecting, the opportunity for young people to contribute objects to the museums’ collections, and co-curate exhibitions; an Artist in Residence programme, in which children and young people at risk of not being in education, employment or training, can work alongside professional artists to gain skills and experience; and the chance for young people to work alongside professionals to create digital interpretation for the partnership’s major Thomas Hardy exhibition in 2022.
The funding also covers employing a new staff member to oversee the project. This role will be advertised on the Wessex Museums website and social media platforms, and other job listings.
