New young dancers for Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet

MATTHEW Bourne’s New Adventures will be touring the world premiere production of their Romeo and Juliet next year, coming to Plymouth Theatre Royal in the spring and to Southampton Mayflower from 24th to 28th September.

The passionate re-imagining of Shakespeare’s classic love story will be bursting with youth, vitality and Bourne’s trademark storytelling. He will collaborate with the New Adventures team including Etta Murfitt, Lez Brotherston, Paule Constable and Paul Groothuis, with new orchestrations of the Prokofiev score by Terry Davies, played live by the New Adventures Orchestra conducted by Brett Morris.

Inspired by the success of  2014’s Lord of the Flies, in which professional dancers and young men with little or no dance experience, danced together, Romeo and Juliet  will feature the finest emerging male and female dancers from around the UK. Bourne started searching in April 2018 for talented young dancers in training, aged between 16 and 19.

There were more than 1000 applicants, from whom six young dancers were selected for each venue on the 2019 tour.
The title roles of  will be played by six rising stars of the New Adventures company, as well as  two exciting new dancers making their professional debuts.

Romeo and Juliet opens at Plymouth Theatre Royal on 4th June 2019. For more details telephone 01752 267222 or visit the website, www.theatreroyal.com
