November with DWT

THE winter programme for Dorset Wildlife Trust is inevitably smaller than the other seasons, but there are still walks, talks and the occasional bracing outside event.

Saturday 9th November to Sunday 8th December – My Wild Dorset, art exhibition, 10am – 4pm daily. at the Chesil Beach Centre; local artists celebrating the wild nature of Dorset.

Tuesday 12th – Durlston Pleasure Grounds project, 7.30pm; a presentation about the Heritage Lottery Fund project, Carter Community School. No need to book.

Friday 15th – Dorset wild rivers protection and enhancement in partnership, illustrated talk by Jim Day, education officer for Blashford Lakes in Ringwood; Quarterjack Suite, Allendale Centre. Wimborne.

Monday 18th – Brownsea bird boats, 9am – 1pm,  DWT, National Trust and the RSPB are running the Brownsea Bird Boats with a landing on Brownsea Island and cruise around the harbour when the island is closed to the public. Wednesday 20th – The ecology of seahorses, Fontmell Magna village hall,  7.30pm; illustrated talk by Julie Hatcher, marine awareness officer for the DWT Living Seas Team. Contact 01747 811546.

Thursday 21st – Osprey translocation in Poole Harbour, Christchurch Baptist Hall, 7.30pm, illustrated talk by Paul Morton of Birds of Poole Harbour, focusing on osprey translocation and other projects. Contact 01202 521643. .

Wednesday 27th – Dorset grasslands, 2.30pm, talk on types, location, geology and management challenges of Dorset grasslands by Jim White; joint event with the Lyme Regis Society at Woodmead Halls, Lyme Regis. Contact 01308 423442.
