WHAT better setting for Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance than Nothe Fort at Weymouth?
Opera Anywhere is bringing its new production of the ever-popular comic opera to the venue on Thursday 8th August.
Under the auspices of Dorchester Arts, this swashbuckling farce, with Sullivan’s memorable tunes and Gilbert’s razor-sharp satire, is the story of a band of pirates who are really decent fellows who will never rob an orphan. Of course the word has gone round, but they haven’t yet noticed that EVERY ship they board seemed to be manned exclusively by thoses with neither mother nor father.
Add in a dotty Major-General with a bevy of daughters and a bunch of hopelessly hesitant policemen.
The arias include I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General, the chorus Hail Poetry, Poor Wand’ring One and A Policemen’s Lot Is Not A Happy One,
The Fort will be open from 5.30pm, and the performance starts at 7pm. For more information telephone 01305 266926 or visit the website, www.dorchesterarts.org.uk.
