BACK in the 1950s, a singing mother recorded her wistful songs on a new-fangled home tape machine in her sitting room.
She couldn’t have imagined that her son, then only a child, would become one of the most poetic and influential songwriters ever, or that more than 60 years later, the dust would be blown off her own songs.
Now The Unthanks are now touring the UK performing the songs and poems of Molly Drake, mother of Nick and Gabrielle, on the How the Wild Wind Blows tour.
The 2013 release of Molly Drake’s work could have been just a curious footnote and jigsaw fragment in explaining the enormous talent of Nick Drake. But The Unthanks spotted its extraordinary qualities, ranking alongside and independently of her son.
Hear for yourself at Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon on Sunday 30th April, from 7.30pm.
