Singing to thank her own healthcare workers

SINGER and bassist Miranda Sykes has spent the lockdown period making regular journeys to the Ricky Grant Unit at Tobay Hospital, re-located to  Newton Abbot. Just before the country came to a standstill, Totnes-based Miranda was diagnosed with breast cancer, and five cycles of chemotherapy began.

The singer best known for 16 years with Devon duo Show of Hands, and for her recent solo tours around the UK, decided to perform a live concert from her living room just before each series of treatment.

Now, with the last cycle due to start in early July, she had decided to give a concert in aid of the unit where she is currently receiving treatment and fighting her own battle. Throughout what has been a tremendously difficult time for healthcare workers, the entire unit was moved to Newton Abbot and staff have made huge personal sacrifices to shield their highly vulnerable patients and keep them safe.

Miranda will start her final cycle of chemotherapy before facing the next stage of her journey on the 8th July and she wants to give something back. So on Saturday 4th July she will perform a very special Facebook Live concert to raise funds.
