Spend a penny at the Rondo

URINETOWN, The Musical is a brilliantly funny but savage satire on capitalism, greed and corruption, set in a Gotham-like city in a not-too-distant dystopian future. It is the spring production by Merriman Productions, at Bath’s Rondo Theatre from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st May.

A terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year drought has led to a ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs.

If they disobey, they are sent to the mysterious and foreboding Urinetown, from which no one has yet returned.

Our hero, Bobby Strong, has had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom…

This Tony Award winning musical, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book by Greg Kotis, blends Bertolt Brecht with Batman and Les Mis. The result is an irreverent satire, sending up everything from politics to Broadway.

Merriman’s previous Rondo visits include the musical comedy sell-out successes Soho Cinders, One Man Two Guvnors, Spamalot and Acorn Antiques.
