Summer 1993 ends Cinema Obscura season

THE final film of the 2018-19 season for Exmoor’s adventurous Cinema Obscura film society Summer 1993 directed by Carla Simon, on Sunday 14th April at Wiveliscombe Primary School Hall.

The film, which is in Spanish Catalan with English subtitles, follows the experiences of six-year-old Frida who watches in silence as the last objects from her recently deceased mother’s apartment in Barcelona are placed in boxes.

Although her aunt, uncle and younger cousin welcome her with open arms, Frida finds it hard to forget her mother and adapt to her new home in the Catalan countryside. Before the summer is over, she has to cope with her emotions and her relations have to learn to love her as their own daughter.

Based on the director’s own childhood this film won best First Feature prize at the Berlin Film Festival
