Welcome back, ballet at Hatch

BALLET Under the Stars returns to the beautiful walled garden at Hatch near Tisbury on 22nd, 23rd and 24th July, after a Covid-enforced two-year hiatus. The special guests will be two soloists from the National Ballet of Ukraine, Julia Moskalenko and Stanislav Olshanskyi.

Hatch House performances, in an elegant stretch marquee in the beautiful walled garden, overlooking the Vale of Wardour, are renowned for their exciting mix of classical, neo classical and contemporary dance, performed by some of the greatest dancers from the world’s greatest ballet and dance companies.

The companies with dancers featured this year  include The Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin and Ukraine National Ballet, with a welcome return for some favourites and some exciting new faces.

The performers will include Royal Ballet super-stars Fumi Kaneko and Vadim Muntagirov, the Staatsballett’s Ksenia Ovsyanick and Alejandro Virelles and English National Ballet stars Fernanda Oliveira and Fabian Reimair, as well as Paris Opera Ballet’s rising stars Luna Peigné and Guillaume Diop.

The invasion of Ukraine has had a devastating effect on every aspect of life in the country. forced Julia Moskalenko and Stanislav Olshanskyi are among thousands of Ukrainian artists displaced by the war, who find themselves homeless across Europe.

“We are honoured to be able to give them a stage,” says Matt Brady, director of the Covent Garden Dance Co, which arranges Ballet at Hatch, widely known as the Glyndebourne of dance..

The list of performers is completed with the Mariinsky star and principal dancer Xander Parish to Hatch House. Xander recently fled Russia by bus to the border with his wife Anastasia to Estonia where they are awaiting visas to return.

Pictured are Guillaume Diop and Luna Peigne, and some of this year’s other dancers, several of whom will be familiar to Hatch audiences.
