CIRCUS of Horrors creator Dr Haze had little choice but to sack Bournemouth-born Doug Child from his role as Killer Klown when it all got too scary and reports of his influence started appearing in the tabloid press.
But now Doug is back in a new role, Beelzebum – Lord of the Underworld, and he makes his debut at Poole’s Lighthouse on Friday 12th January when the circus returns to town. And the show is at Weymouth Pavilion on Monday 15th January.
Doug joined the show in 2013 as a hunchback creature before becoming Camp Dracula. The former call centre worker was delighted when he was promoted to Relik the Killer Klown two years ago. But his on-stage antics were copied around the UK as the Killer Klown plague took hold.
Dr Haze told Doug to come up with a new character, and he makes his debut in the new show, Voodoo.
This is a big year for circus performers worldwide, as it marks 2018 250 years since Sergeant Major Philip Astley devised the entertainment in London, bringing him the title of father of modern circus.
The Circus of Horrors started at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival. It has since toured the world from Chile to Chatham, Argentina to Aberdeen, Japan to Jersey. The troupe has appeared with Alice Cooper, Eminem, Motley Crue, Oasis, Iron Maiden, The Manic St Preachers, Foo Fighters and more.
