WELSH folk band Calan, who come to Bridport Arts Centre on Friday 13th September, have put the music of their native land on the international scene. Now they are back on the road with a new collection, celebrating the tenth anniversary of their debut album.
The new compilation, Deg or 10, also includes some new tracks specially recorded for the CD. The five band members play a wide range of instruments including accordion, harp, guitar, fiddles and Welsh bagpipes and there is also a virtuoso performance from a champion step dancer.
Calan’s music is described as a fresh and vibrant sound with a pounding beat set against the backdrop of ancient traditions, drawing on the myths of Wales’ fairy realm, with tales of magic and mischief, all set to beautiful and haunting melodies.
