WELSH National Opera makes its Yeovil debut on Thursday 11th July with its latest production of Don Pasquale.
The cast is led by Andrew Shore in the title role, with Nico Darmanin as Ernesto, Harriet Eyley as Norina and Quirijn de Lang as Malatesta in Daisy Evans’ production, conducted by Stephen Higgins.
Donizetti’s comic opera centres around the elderly Don Pasquale, who threatens to disinherit is nephew because he wants to marry a penniless widow. Our hero then decides, late in life, to marry and beget an heir to ensure that Ernesto won’t get his money.
His doctor Malatesta arrives, singing the praises of a potential bride, who turns out to be his sister.
The fun continues in this modern re-working on the original.
