ANNA Hallett, a 14-year-old organ scholar from Devizes, comes south to Gillingham Methodist Church on Sunday 15th September for her debut recital.
She had been playing the piano for four years when she attended a Pipes and Pizza workshop, organised by Salisbury Diocese, at Edington Priory in 2014. Immediately taking to the organ, she enrolled for lessons with Chris Totney, working through the early ABRSM grades “at an alarming rate.” Anna is currently preparing for her Grade 7 exam later this year.
She has attended a number of organ courses and takes any opportunity she can to attend recitals. Last year, Anna became an RSCM Pipeline Organ Scholar, supported by St John’s Church, Devizes, where she sings in the choir and plays with increasing regularity at services and concerts.
Anna is currently a Music Scholar at Stonar School, where she is studying ahead of her GCSE exams in 2021. In her spare time, she enjoys astronomy, film, reading and keeping her blog: ‘pipeskeysandchords.com’ up-to-date.
She hopes to go to university in Cambridge and become a Director of Music in a cathedral.
At Gillingham, where the recital starts at 3pm, Anna will be playing pieces she’s encountered during her four years learning the organ, including works by Glover, JS Bach, Wesley, Simon, Filitz, Held, Guilmant, Scheidt, Lang, Stanford, Boellmann and Moore.
