FOOD businesses from Somerset and the surrounding counties will be showcasing their produce at a new one-day event in Wincanton, Savour the Flavour, at the Memorial Hall, on Saturday 30th March.
The aim of the event, organised by South Somerset District Council, is to showcase and celebrate the high quality produce, producers and food retailers from South Somerset and the surrounding areas.
The area has a long agricultural heritage and is rich with traditional family farms, which, for generations have supported the food sector. This is reflected in today’s diverse range and size of local food businesses from small scale producers supplying farmers’ markets to internationally known brands.
Producers taking part include Somerset Cheese Co, Wraxall Vineyard, Dowding’s organic apple juice and Gluten Free Gourmet.
Windrose Rural Media Trust and Amanda Boyd will be there showing archive film of local food producers and rural life and performing music and folk songs.
Around the town centre, businesses will be offering discounts, taster menus and activities. Wincanton’s popular new greengrocer is organising a Master of Marmalade competition in the run up to the day, and Wincanton Library is hosting a Paddington and food themed storytelling session, followed by a Paddington Parade across to the Memorial Hall for judging
There will be a curtain raiser event on Friday 22nd when LEAF Education hosts a cheese and orchard themed session at Wincanton Primary School.
