JUST how difficult IS it to sleep on the night before Christmas, when you’re waiting for the sound of Santa’s reindeer in the sky?
You can find out in the studio theatre at Bristol Old Vic until 5th January, when Travelling Light brings its favourite show back to the historic venue. This time the performers are Wilkie Branson, one of the original performers nine years ago, and Kel Matsena, a recent graduate from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
This charming piece, directed by Sally Cookson, is aimed at young children and their families and tells the almost wordless story of two brothers waiting for Father Christmas.
Try as they may to drop off, just as soon as the sandman comes he leaves again.
As Wilkie tries to calm his little brother, their various antics include dancing, acrobatics, mock fighting with and without teddy and panda, hiding, chasing feathers and playing with their audience … until, inevitably, exhaustion finally wins.
Can you hear the sleighbells?
This energetic, inventive and beautifully choreographed show has been deservedly popular with generations of young children, and should fill the Weston Studio for its various daytime shows into January.
