Songs of the sea and the salt

THE acclaimed folk band The Salts has a special concert at Honiton’s Beehive centre on Saturday 26th July, an evening of sea shanties and songs from the sea, at which they will be joined by West Country folk multi-instrumentalist and legend Phil Beer, half of the famous duo Show of Hands..

The five-strong band, whose performances are described as “21st century folk firing a respectful broadside at the traditional,” will play a set that celebrates maritime classics that we all know and love, including Bound for South Australia, Blow the Man Down, Drunken Sailor and many more, alongside well crafted original tunes.

The Salts are a multi-instrumentalist, acoustic rock-folk co-operative formed by a group of sea-shanty and folk music lovers from Dorking, Surrey. The current line-up, Brian Doran (vocals, mandolin, Whistle), Lee Collinson (vocals, banjo, acoustic guitar), Jeremy Hart (vocals, acoustic guitar), Richard Nash (vocals, drums) and Tim Cantrell (vocals, double bass, has mastered a unique sound, skilfully mixing original compositions and traditional folk tunes with a punk rock attitude. They combine their unique talents to thrill audiences and encourage them to sing and dance like there’s no tomorrow.

An added bonus for this Honiton gig – they will be joined by the much-loved folk star Phil Beer!
