Remembering summer in words and music

VAN Gogh’S Wheat Field with Cypresses positively sings of late summer – an appropriate image for a concert that celebrates the season. To the Idle Hill of Summer: Memories of the Season will be performed by pianist Clare Sydenham, with narrator David Hindley, at St Mary’s Church, Bruton, on Sunday 21st September at 3pm.

The event follows three previous successful themed programmes (Dreamscapes, Tales and Legends and Arabesque) at Bruton.

The new concert is a themed, scripted programme looking back over the season through the piano music of Maurice Ravel, Frederick Delius, Percy Grainger and others with readings from literary works by Thomas Hardy, William Shakespeare, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Matthew Arnold and more.
