Ralph Fiennes and Francesca Annis in world premiere at Bath

OSCAR-winning actor Ralph Fiennes completes his season of productions at the Theatre Royal Bath, starring in Small Hotel, by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and starring Ralph Fiennes, in its world premiere from Friday 3rd to Saturday 18th October. The cast also includes the acclaimed stage and screen actress Francesca Annis, Rosalind Eleazar and Rachel Tucker.

Larry is an acclaimed TV celebrity, whose life and career are rapidly unravelling. As he is forced to unpick his past and confront his future, we meet a collection of unforgettable characters, including Larry’s troubled twin brother Richard, his unpredictable former lover, and his domineering mother.

Ralph Fiennes has a vast and distinguished career both on stage and in some of the greatest films of our time. The winner of a Tony Award for playing Hamlet, his many theatre credits include Antony and Cleopatra, Richard III and The Master Builder. Last year he starred in the title role in Shakespeare’s Macbeth alongside Indira Varma as Lady Macbeth, with performances in Liverpool, Edinburgh, London and Washington DC. His numerous film roles include Conclave, The Return, a BAFTA Award-winning performance in Schindler’s List, The English Patient, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Constant Gardener, Skyfall, the Harry Potter series of films, In Bruges and The Dig.

Francesca Annis, who plays Athena, had her first major film role alongside Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 epic Cleopatra (20th Century Fox). A stellar stage career with the RSC and National Theatre encompassed many iconic roles including Juliet opposite Ian McKellen in Romeo and Juliet. Her countless notable screen roles range from an acclaimed Lady Macbeth in Roman Polanski’s Macbeth, to co-starring with Judi Dench in the BBC series Cranford.

Playing the role of Marianne is Rosalind Eleazar, a regular cast member of the critically acclaimed Apple TV drama series, Slow Horses, alongside Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott-Thomas and Jack Lowden. Her theatre credits include the National Theatre’s The House of Bernada Alba and Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Olivier Award nominee Rachel Tucker, who plays Ava and other characters, has numerous theatre credits including The Great Gatsby (London Coliseum), Hadestown (Lyric Theatre), Sunset Boulevard (Savoy Theatre – as Norma Desmond), and Come From Away in the West End and on Broadway.

Rebecca Lenkiewicz is a playwright and screenwriter whose work has been performed all over the world. With Her Naked Skin in 2008, Rebecca became the first living female playwright to have an original play performed on the National Theatre’s Olivier stage. Her other original plays include: The Night Season, winner of Critics Circle Most Promising Playwright Award 2004 and nominated for an Evening Standard and the Susan Smith Blackburn Award (Cottesloe Theatre, National Theatre); Shoreditch Madonna (Soho Theatre) and The Painter (Arcola Theatre).

Director Holly Race Roughan is the artistic cirector of award-winning touring theatre company Headlong, for which she has directed productions including The House Party, A View from the Bridge, Henry V (Shakespeare’s Globe and tour), Corrina Corrina, Hedda Tesman and People, Places and Things,

The set designer is Bob Crowley, costume designer is Loren Elstein, with lighting be Sally Ferguson, and music and sound be Max Pappenheim.
