Phillip Goulding’s take on Gogol classic at Salisbury Studio

THE next play on stage at the Ashley Road Studio Theatre in Salisbury is an English version of Nikolai Gogol’s classic The Government Inspector, from 13th to 18th October. The adaptation, by Philip Goulding, is sub-titled A Little Local Difficulty, and will be directed by the writer’s brother George, a Studio stalwart.

The action of this classic comedy of deception, corruption and hypocrisy and small-town snobberyis set in a fictional British town in the 1860s. Mayor Wyndham-Pitts has been told by the powers that be that an Inspector will call, and everyone is waiting. But IS John Petty the man the town bigwigs thinks he is ?

The cast includes Kris Hamilton-Brain as Mayor Wyndham-Pitts, Jamie Pullen as John Petty and Caroline Butcher, Emily Casselton, Ness Hawkings, Dave Simmons, Aine Tiernan and Marie Therese Tiernan, all (other than Jamie Pullen) playing multiple roles.
