Moviola in November

UNTIL a few months ago, the names of Moth and Raynor Winn provoked respect and admiration, and the their story was filmed as The Salt Path, with a stellar cast featuring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. That critically-praised film is the most-requested on Moviola’s November programme.

In July, The Observer newspaper broke the story which alleged, with substantial supporting interviews and evidence, that not everything was quite as Raynor Winn described in The Salt Path. The book recounts the events that led to the couple being broke, homeless, and making the extraordinary decision to hike there 630-mile South West Coast Path, despite Moth’s diagnosis of fatal corticobasal degeneration.

However, the film stands on its own merits – with its charismatic actors and the stunning scenery of the south west coast. Audiences may now take the story with a pinch of salt, but they can enjoy the movie.

It is being screened at Kingsbury Episcopi (community centre), Codford St Peter (Woolstore Theatre), Halstock, Hythe (Parish Hall), Harnham near Salisbury (sports and social club), Membury (Devon), Cheddon and West Monkton, Edington (Somerset), Marnhull, Calne (Town Hall), Kilmington Community Cinema (Devon), South Petherton (David Hall) and West Camel.
