Tradwives and jivefest at the Swan

LAURA Wade’s colourful satirical play Home, I’m Darling comes to the stage of the Swan Theatre in Yeovil from 20th to 25th July.

Judy and Johnny live in 50s bliss in their carefully-curated dream home. She has given up a lucrative job to become a perfect housewife in a house (almost) free of modern technology, always there to make breakfast and kiss her husband off to work, always there to welcome him home with slippers and well-deserved drink. Johnny heads off from Monday to Friday into the increasingly competitive world of estate agency and Judy stays home and dusts under the carpet.

But is it all as it seems? Judy’s mum Sylvia can see the cracks. Friends Fran and Marcus are getting bored with the annual jivefest – fun at first but not their lifestyle choice. And Johnny’s new boss is less than entranced by the whole business.

Judith Payne directs the show, with Amy McIntosh and Ryan Anslow as Judy and Johnny, Sarah Ambrose as Sylvia, Carys Clayton as Alex the boss, and Melanie Gillespie-Day and Adam Lanfranci as Fran and Marcus.

Performances are nightly at 7.45.
