THE 2026-27 season for Amateur Players of Sherborne starts on 7th September with a production of The Good Doctor, a play based on short stories by Anton Chekhov.
Directed by Richard Culham, the sold-out production is described as “an evening of laughter, longing and wonderfully human absurdity.” Neil Simon reimagines the Chekhov’s stories with wit, warmth and a generous dose of theatrical mischief. A narrator guides us through a gallery of eccentric characters – flirtatious ladies, anxious husbands, overworked governesses, duelling egos and tender romantics — all navigating love, pride and the glorious complications of being human. Their hopes, vanities and vulnerabilities are as familiar today as they were in 19th-century Russia.
Return tickets may be available for the show, which continues at the Studio Theatre nightly until 12th September, with a 2.30 Saturday matinee.
