SHAKESPEARE Live, the company that was founded 37 years ago by a group of experienced amateur actors, brings its latest devised show, Shakespeare’s Green-Eyed Monster, to four venues between 21st and 24th October.
The company, whose members are drawn from the Wiltshire and Somerset area, is known for its annual summer productions at Seend, and its winter tours. The 2026 play, Shakespeare’s Green-Eyed Monster, has been created by director Gill Morrell from extracts and quotes, some serious and even tragic, and others light-hearted and full of laughter.
The title is taken from Iago’s scheming speech to Othello, to encourage the Moor of Venice to suspect his guiltless wife – “O beware of Jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster…”
Jealousy and envy are powerful and destructive emotions that sow doubt, suspicion, disgust, anger and even murder, and in this full-length play audiences will find scenes from Othello, The Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Cymbeline, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Two Noble Kinsmen and many more.
Performances start at 8pm at all venues. Find out more about Shakespeare’s many thoughts on that green-eyed monster at Marden House Centre in Calne on Wednesday 21st October, Corsham Town Hall on Thursday 22nd, Frome’s Merlin Theatre on Friday 23rd and at The Cause in Chippenham on Saturday 24th October.
