Classic favourites with BSO and Eric Lu

THE Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and assistant conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh celebrate the Classic FM Hall of Fame in a series of concerts at Poole, Exeter and Portsmouth, from 18th to 20th April, with award-winning pianist Eric Lu (pictured) as guest soloist.

The programme, presented b y Classic FM’s Anne-Marie Minhall, begins with Rossini’s delightful overture, The Thieving Magpie, with its colourful and infectious melodies. The Carmen Suite, based on Bizet’s passionate operatic story of jealousy and doomed love, is followed by Debussy’s Clair de Lune, a luminous hymn to the moon.

Erik Lu, first prize-winner at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018, will be the soloist in Grieg’s lyrical piano concerto, which draws strongly on Norwegian folk music.

The final work is An American in Paris, Gershwin’s vivid musical postcard impressions of life in the French capital in the jazz age, inspired by the time the composer had spent in the city.

The BSO Classic FM Hall of Fame concerts are at Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 18th April, Exeter University’s Great Hall on Friday 19th and Poole’s Lighthouse on Saturday 20th, all at 7.30pm.
