Down at the old Mission hall

BATH Gilbert & Sullivan Society pays tribute to a great British tradition in its spring show, an Old Time Music Hall, at the Mission Theatre from Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th April at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.

Much-loved for their regular G&S productions, the multi-award winning Bath society has also staged popular music hall shows, most recently at the Mission in 2019, recreating the songs, medleys, comedy and variety acts that were the staple fare on the halls.

The Victorians and Edwardians flocked to the music hall to see the stars and entertainers of the period – names that still resonate today, including Vesta Tilley, Marie Lloyd, Harry Champion and George Robey.

The audience is promised an exuberantly eloquent chairman who will guide them with consummate competence through the proceedings, with raucous renditions of those timeless sing-a-long classics – “My Old Man”, “Daisy, Daisy”, and “Any Old Iron”.

An evening of mirth, merriment and mayhem is what we all need after this long, wet and depressing winter!
