Down the rabbit hole …

IF you fancy taking part in a pantomime based on one of the best-known and loved of all fantasy stories, make a note of Monday 15th September, the day when Shaftesbury Arts Centre’s music and drama group is holding an interest evening for the 2026 pantomime, Alice in Wonderland.

Lewis Carroll’s unique and timeless classic story has been adapted to include the expected panto routines – He’s behind you, OH no you don’t, etc – but it also features well-loved characters from the book including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and, of course, Alice herself.

You will find good and evil characters, a classic comedy duo and a warm hearted dame, with many twists and turns to bring the classic story to life in the spirit of pantomime.

Along with the principal characters, there will be a singing and acting ensemble and a dance crew, with roles available for everyone, of all ages.

There are also many opportunities behind the scenes – including stage management, props and building Wonderland, along with opportunities for anyone with any level of experience.

Full of whimsy, imagination and music from the 1950s to 2025, this version of the story will transport the audience into the surreal, nonsensical world of Wonderland and aim to leave you smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

Curiouser and curiouser … If you want to know more, but can’t make that evening, contact stage@nullshaftesburyartscentre.org.uk for more information. Auditions will be in the following weeks, with the show at the end of January 2026.

Don’t be late for this very important date .. Monday 15th September at 7.30pm
