Fine wines and fine dining at Howards House Hotel

food-howardshouseA BEAUTIFUL country house hotel, in one of the most perfect Wiltshire villages, Howards House Hotel has been named Britain’s Most Romantic Hotel in the Good Hotel Guide since 2010.

The independent, family-run hotel, beside the Teff chalk stream which runs through Teffont Evias, in the south west corner of the county, is also renowned for its food, and there is a special event on 20th March celebrating fine dining accompanied by fine wines from another famous Wiltshire business, Yapp Brothers of Mere.

Wine experts from Yapps will introduce some stunning discoveries from the Loire region, accompanied by a tasting menu carefully crafted by head chef Nick Wentworth and his team to complement the subtle flavours of the wines.

Nick Wentworth’s style is contemporary British but unlike many of his celebrity fellow chefs he prefers the kitchen to the television studio and sourcing genuine local ingredients to celebrity book signing. Nick’s passion is presenting deceptively simple, delicious and beautiful food, sourced from the best local meat and game, seasonal fish and seafood, and fresh vegetables.

He works closely with local suppliers and Julian Pughe, who has cared for the hotel’s traditional potager garden for more than 20 years.

Another special event is an English Spring Dinner Party, on Wednesday, 2nd April. The evening begins with drinks and canapes followed by a six-course tasting menu, which celebrates the arrival of spring with some surprising and innovative culinary choices. Nick Wentworth’s menu will be complemented by Simon Greenwood’s flight of carefully chosen wines.

Yapp Dinners are priced at £70 per person including wines and early booking is advised.
