ONE of the most critically acclaimed stage performances of recent years comes to Theatre Royal Bath from Tuesday 24th to Saturday 28th February. Jodie Comer stars in Suzie Miller’s solo play, Prima Facie, an emotionally charged and challenging drama about a young barrister who is forced to confront the limitations of the law. The play sold out at Bath within hours of the booking opening, but returns and day tickets may be available.
Jodie Comer has been astonishing audiences and critics alike from the moment her fiercely intelligent performance electrified the screen in early performances including the 2016 mini-series Thirteen, filmed in Bristol. She went on to make Killing Eve unmissable – winning a BAFTA for Best Leading Actress in 2019 – and garnered rave reviews for the Covid-set drama Help by Jack Thorne. Her film career has included powerful performances in The Last Duel, The Bikeriders and The End We Start From.
The play has been a huge hit in London and New York, and the film of the performance, shown in cinemas and arts centres across the country, has broken box office records. Jodie Comer won Olivier and Tony Awards and Suzie Miller won an Olivier for Best Play.
The play explores the devastating experiences of Tessa, a brilliant young barrister who loves to win. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game, prosecuting, cross-examining and lighting up the shadows of doubt in any case. An unexpected event forces her to confront
the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, the burden of proof and morals diverge.
The production is directed by Justin Martin.
