THE August exhibition at Durlston Country Park’s Fine Foundation Gallery, is Interaction of Light, paintings and limited edition prints by the acclaimed watercolourist Cathy Veale. The exhibition runs until Sunday 23rd August and the gallery is open from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Cathy specialises in large seascapes with a distinctive style that is rich in luminosity and colour. She is drawn to the stunning natural beauty of the Jurassic coastline, which has been the theme of her work for many years, both on land and from the sea.

A keen sailor who studied graphic design at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, Cathy travelled extensively around Europe, America and New Zealand, before settling in her home town, Swanage.

Her fascination with the sea is fuelled by its changing moods and patterns formed by the sky’s reflection and tidal states. Her paintings have a unique texture, concentrating on the effects of light and colour on water.

Cathy’s work has regularly been selected to be shown with Britain’s leading watercolour artists in London at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Society of Marine Artists exhibitions.

Pictured is Mupe Rocks. These are striking, offshore, limestone stacks and ledges just east of Lulworth Cove, showing complex, steeply dipping strata. Mupe Rocks and Mupe Bay are close to the Lulworth Ranges (Ministry of Defence live-firing ranges) – public access via the coast path is restricted and only permitted when the ranges are officially open to the public.
