Nature talks at Shaftesbury

FROM wild geese to the night skies, Shaftesbury’s Folde nature and art bookshop, has lined up a fascinating series of writers’ talks for the spring and early summer, continuing  with Taking Flight on Thursday 18th May. It will feature Lev Parikian talking about his new book, Taking Flight: The Evolutionary Story of Life on the Wing, in which he turns his passion for nature and his gift for inspiring wonder in his writing, to explore the how, why and when of flight in the animal kingdom.

Other events later in the series include gardener Mark Hamer, Wainwright-longlisted author of Seed to Dust and A Life in Nature, talking about his new memoir, Spring Rain; The Guardian’s nature writer Patrick Barkham talking about the late Roger Deakin; James Roberts talking about Two Lights, walking in remote areas of Britain, Africa and North America; and Katie Holten on The Language of Trees.

Once again, Folde will be teaming up with Planted for the group’s National Trust Stourhead weekend, from 9th to 11th June. The event revolves around a nine-part talks programme, botanical market, natural living show and wellness workshops for adults and children.

Tickets for the talks are free but must be pre-booked.
